In late 2014, Duke University scientists led by Diego Bohórquez got together to share data and to talk gut-brain science. Little did they know, this meeting would give birth to GASTRONAUTS – a community of researchers passionate about gut-brain matters.
All knowledge comes from people who eat. As such, we are engineers, biologists, neuroscientists, psychiatrists, therapists, patients, science communicators who care about gut-brain matters. From food to mood, we are always thinking about how to tap into the gut to improve human health and the world we live in.
Our mantra is where the gut meets the brain. That mantra has fostered a lively monthly seminar series at Duke University. From September to May, every first Tuesday of the month we gather at 4PM to celebrate knowledge. That mantra has also gone to places. Gastronauts has a biannual symposium. The first of its kind was a special gathering at Duke in 2016 only to be followed by a world class symposium: Gastronauts Singapore 2018. The date for the next experience – Gastronauts Nantes 2020 – is set May 19-21 and the sauce is brewing.
Do you like this intersection? Cheer us on. Would you like to accelerate our research? Funding is the way. Should you find yourself resonating with our mantra, join us. Together we can create knowledge that may enable us to treat diseases of the brain from the gut.
